About the Front Street Animal Shelter Fundraising Foundation
The Front Street Animal Shelter Fundraising Foundation was established to raise critical funds in support of the City of Sacramento’s Front Street Animal Shelter. As a newly formed 501(c)(3) nonprofit commencing in 2026, our mission is simple: strengthen the shelter’s ability to care for animals and serve the Sacramento community.
Front Street Animal Shelter plays an essential role in protecting lost, abandoned, surrendered, and at-risk animals. Our foundation exists to help ensure the shelter has the additional financial support needed to continue saving and improving lives.
Why We Were Created
Municipal shelters operate within fixed city budgets. While the City of Sacramento provides funding, the growing needs of animals and the community often exceed available resources.
Our foundation was created to help bridge that gap.
We focus on generating sustainable fundraising support through events, partnerships, community engagement, and long-term planning. Our short-term goal is to build consistent revenue streams that support medical care, spay and neuter services, adoption programs, and outreach efforts.
Our long-term vision includes a capital campaign to help address future infrastructure needs. Established in 1910, Front Street Animal Shelter is one of the oldest animal shelters in California. The current facility, situated on approximately 1.7 acres, was not designed to meet the scale of today’s demand. Looking ahead, expanded space and modern medical capacity will be essential to continue serving Sacramento effectively.
What We Support
Funds raised by the foundation help support:
• Emergency and ongoing medical care
• Spay and neuter services
• Vaccinations and preventative care
• Adoption, foster, and rescue program support.
• Enrichment and behavioral support
• Community education and outreach
• Food and animal supplies
Every dollar raised is intended to strengthen outcomes for animals and improve the overall welfare of pets and people in Sacramento.
